No credit card payments were made for 3 mos because I was unemployed. How do i raise my credit score?

I am now employed and ready to pay off 2 or 3 of my 4 cards. My credit score was very high and is dropping by the second. I need to have a good score in order to buy a car or a house.
My cards have already been placed with bill collectors.
And the cards were charged out from the get go.
